We're so excited about this guest post from Dexcom CTO Jorge Valdes. By joining the Tidepool platform, Dexcom is now the second device maker (Asante was the first) to say loud and clear: You own your data, and you should be able to use the app that’s right for you to help you manage your diabetes. We look forward to more soon. Cheers, Howard
Dexcom is very pleased to announce that we have entered into an agreement with Tidepool to license the G4 Platinum data protocol. This means that all Tidepool applications will be able to read data from the Dexcom G4 Platinum receiver. The collaboration provides patients with greater access to their data and improves their ability to manage their disease.
Dexcom strongly believes that the best way to help patients is to provide an open interface to access their data. Dexcom will always continue to provide industry leading CGM solutions and simple to use interfaces for patients on our receivers and smartphone apps, but we realize that it is not practical for us to attempt to provide every possible solution and feature for patients. That is why having an open interface and teaming with companies such as Tidepool is the best way to help patients. Together, Dexcom and its officially licensed partners can bring a suite of solutions to help patients manage their diabetes, greater than what any company can do on its own. We envision software such as data visualization tools, data analysis tools, food journals, broader tools that look at additional health factors, and electronic medical records. Assisting patients to share their data is the best way to help them manage their disease.
We look forward to a successful relationship with Tidepool and their excellent suite of apps!
Jorge Valdes, CTO, Dexcom
