Who We Are
We are people with type 1 diabetes. Parents of kids with type 1. And doctors who care for them. This disease is a big part of our lives.
What We Believe
We believe in a patient-first model of diabetes care.
We believe that technology can make a big difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes. We believe that new approaches to software design can create better outcomes, fewer complications, tighter control and at the end of the day, lighten the load on everyone with T1D.
Right now there are a lot of people who think, “This is as good as it gets.” We don't accept that. We are building technology that will help people with diabetes and their doctors make better treatment decisions.
What Drives Us
We are driven by our frustration with the isolated silos in which diabetes data is managed and displayed. We believe diabetes data should be acquired seamlessly and in real time, stored and managed in a cloud-based platform, made available for providers and patients to look at anytime, and presented in a standardized, intuitive, and comprehensible way regardless of which device the patient uses.
What We're Doing
We are here to bring the benefits of open source software to the closed, vertical and proprietary world of diabetes care. We are building an open software stack that will serve as the infrastructure for a new generation of smart diabetes management apps that help patients, parents, and doctors reduce the burden of type 1 diabetes.
We are organizing and curating these open development efforts. Tidepool is building the platform and building the first applications that use it. To encourage other creative minds to build on it and adapt it, everything will be developed in the open and available at no cost to non-profit, academic and research institutions.
We believe this will do more than anything else to drive change in the slow-moving world of diabetes care. We cannot do it alone. We need your help to make this happen.

Tidepool is a non-profit organization. Our 501c3 status is pending.
